For policymakers, entrepeneurs & investors.
In some countries commercial real estate is readily being turned into residential. This is at a time when people are increasingly feeling lonelier.
New local business concepts could help contribute towards building more intimate sustainable local communities based on shared interests.
How to test demand for local business concepts?
Some simple ways demand can be tested include:
choosing a suitable local location where can rent some affordable space
creating a 1 page website explaining the offering & collecting contact details (emails & phone number)
creating physical fliers explaining offering & distribute (i.e. stand outside medium-high footfall areas, find places to leave fliers etc)
keep testing messaging until able to surpass target demand for first pilot of concept (i.e. first workshop, day or event)
Concepts
Some concepts that may do well in highstreets with a monthly membership model to reduce risk for investors include:
Boardgames cafes - could serve different demographics from parents with kids, the elderly, casual & serious gamers. Partnerships could also be of interest with local schools. A library could also allow verified members to take games homes for a period of time.
Morning dance clubs - this could be a great way of utilising existing (possibly nightclub) space to have DJs & dancers to help individuals have a fun morning freestyle or themed dance workouts before going to work. Some food such as Oats with toppings & electrolyte drinks could be available
Emotional resilience Gyms - an environment where parents & kids are exposed to challenges that are likely to trigger uncomfortable emotions. Training could enable being able to better: make friends, handle physical discomfort, communicate & improve day to day emotional baseline.
